Do you know the parable of the two wolves? It goes like this …
One evening an elderly Cherokee brave told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.
He said, “The battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all. One is evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority and lies. The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth and compassion.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
I love this reminder of the power we have over our experiences and emotions. That we can choose to see ourselves as victims, wallow in self-pity or listen to the inner critics that tell us we’ll never be smart enough, strong enough, good enough. Or we can – and for some of us it takes practice – make the powerful choice to take responsibility for our emotions and experiences. To recognise our shortcomings but nevertheless know we are enough and that we can live with joy, peace, love, hope and all the other good stuff.
Which 🐺 will you choose to feed?
