I used to hate writing LinkedIn posts. Pretty much every last one of them.
Each week I’d tell myself …
I have nothing interesting to say
hardly anyone will read what I write
or worse, lots of people will read it but they’ll think I’m a fool, insincere, arrogant or something equally dreadful
writing my post will be agony and will take forever.
And sure enough, each post took an eternity to write and felt like getting blood from a stone 😩.
It’s obvious now that I wasn’t putting myself in the best place for clear thinking and creativity. By choosing to view posting as a chore and taking a perspective of negativity and fear, I was sabotaging myself before I’d even sat down to write.
Perspectives matter. They shape our experiences and the outcomes we achieve. Play fearlessly and with freedom and you have every chance of winning. Worry about performing at your best and you’ve already hurt your chances.
The great thing is we can choose what perspectives we take, though that’s not to say it’s always easy.
But this week I’ve succeeded in telling myself a different story about posting on LinkedIn ...
that I’m lucky technology gives me the opportunity to reach so many people so easily
that I can’t control how many people will read my post or how they’ll respond but doing my best and showing up each week is enough
that writing can be fun.
I hope you enjoyed reading my post. I enjoyed writing it 😁.
